GLOSSARY

Blindspot

Short answer: A story where 8+ outlets covered the same event but one side of the political spectrum is barely represented.

On Optics News, a "true blindspot" is a story with at least 8 covering outlets where one political bias bucket (Left, Center, or Right) contributes fewer than ~20% of the sources. A one-source story is NOT a blindspot — it's just an early pickup. Blindspot Watch keeps the bar high so the page stays honest; one-source items are surfaced separately under "Just picked up."
