Needs Review
Short answer: An Optics News label for stories where the source map is too narrow, too one-sided, or mixes incompatible article formats.
"Needs Review" means Optics has flagged the story as not yet ready for a confident Different Spin or Mostly Same call. Common reasons: fewer than two sources, all sources from one bias bucket, opinion-vs-news format mismatch, or the cluster was flagged for review by the post-cluster Gemini check. The numeric score is hidden on Needs Review stories so a thin match can't look more confident than it is.
