GLOSSARY
Wording Gap
Short answer: A 0-99 score Optics News uses internally to rank how different two headlines feel for the same event.
The Wording Gap is Optics News' internal headline-contrast metric. It scores blame language, certainty ("claimed" vs "revealed"), urgency ("crisis" vs "situation"), emotion ("slammed" vs "criticized"), and which actor a headline puts first. 0 means the headlines feel identical; 99 means a completely different first impression. The score is hidden on Needs Review stories so a thin source map can't look more confident than it is.
